Range Rover Sport HSE–D&M Motorsports Video Test Drive and Walk Around with Chris Moran

An in-depth look at a 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE with Chris Moran. Presented by D&M Motorsports. www.dmautosales.com The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a premium SUV that represents a shift in focus for this SUV-oriented luxury brand. While traditional Land Rover models have combined unbeatable off-road performance with the amenities of a luxury sedan, the Range Rover Sport represents Land Rover’s first entry into the burgeoning high-performance SUV arena. It is designed to offer sporty road manners and traditional Land Rover luxury without completely sacrificing the go-anywhere abilities of other Land Rover models. Despite its name, the Range Rover Sport is actually a modified and shortened version of the old Land Rover LR3. As such, the Sport is the smallest and most nimble SUV in the company’s lineup. Overall, it is an enjoyable and luxurious vehicle to drive as well as look at. Shoppers seriously interested in getting maximum on-road performance out of an SUV would probably be better served by a few of this Land Rover’s competitors, however, as they are able to deliver better acceleration and handling. Handling performance is a definite step up from other Land Rover models. The Range Rover Sport is the first Land Rover to offer the company’s Dynamic Response suspension system, which is standard on the Supercharged model and optional on the HSE. **Quick Look** Toyota Supra Turbo–D&M Motorsports

An immaculate 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo, presented by D&M Motorsports. Hosted by Chris Moran from Automotive Media Group. “Where’s the wing?” a co-worker jokingly shouted from across the Orlando Sentinel parking lot as I pulled into a parking space in this week’s test car, a gleaming white Toyota Supra. Our test Supra, an excellent but very expensive automobile, is one of those in-your-face cars. It wore an optional wing-like appendage on its rear that seems bigger than anything this side of a 767 jumbo jet. Because the wing is so large, I felt very self-conscious driving the Supra. It seems to scream out: LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! After driving the Supra for a week, I discovered many people couldn’t resist using the wing to start a conversation. (A family member asked if laundry could be hung on it.) Anyway, my colleague has a hip but quirky sense of humor, and I consider him fairly knowledgeable about cars. So I played a little game with him. ”How much do you think this car costs?” I asked. He gave the Supra the once-over and ventured a guess of 000. ”It has a leather interior, CD and cassette player and power everything,” I said. ”OK, 000.” ”It has a four-wheel independent suspension, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and big, 16 inch tires.” ”000,” he said confidently. ”It has a fold down rear seat and the roof comes off.” ”000.” ”Close,” I said, ”but this particular vehicle is priced at 000.” ”Forty thousand dollars for a Toyota?” he

2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo test drive and walkaround with Chris from Chicago Cars Direct—EXCLUSIVE Factory Turbo Power Package. Weve been ever-so-slightly underwhelmed by Porsches first diesel car, the Cayenne V6 diesel. With 3.0-litres, 237bhp and 405lb ft, its performance just doesnt sparkle like a Porsche even a diesel Porsche should, and it looks a little dull too. Seems that Porsche tuners Techart feel the same way, and the firm is now offering a range of upgrades through UK distributor Tech9. The facts and figures of this special Techart Porsche Cayenne, then? Will do, but first we need to clear up some potential confusion. Tech9 will offer a Techart power upgrade for £2500, but the conversion were trying is Tech9s Expedio, which works on the same kind of principles. It costs £2109, and, just like the Techart tweaks, boosts power from 237bhp and 405lb ft to 290bhp and at least 472lb ft and has been independently proven to hit 62mph in 6.9sec 1.4sec quicker than standard. Is it ferociously rapid? Ferocious, no. Rapid, yes. The standard car is pretty lethargic, infuriatingly so during overtakes and on short slip roads. Expedio brings a plumper hit of torque between 2000 and 3500rpm, a proper kick in the back that better befits the Porsche badge and brings some much-needed flexibility. Yes, its still a little thin and hardworked between 3500 and 4500rpm, but keeping it in the powerband is instinctive enough. How does it work? Tech9 has left turbo boost at factory

2007 Mini Cooper S test drive and walkaround with Chris from Chicago Cars Direct Technically, the Mini Cooper falls into the compact hatchback or convertible category, but this British icon, resurrected by BMW, really belongs in a class of its own. Its teacup-sized dimensions and unabashedly cute silhouette have made it arguably the most recognizable vehicle in the world. The Mini Cooper hatchback gets a redesign for 2007, and its current incarnation is the best yet. The changes made to its exterior are subtle, with Mini wisely leaving the car’s classic styling intact. The 2007 Cooper hatchback is just over 2 inches longer than its predecessor; crash test standards called for a slightly longer nose and taller hood, but these changes are all but invisible, having been balanced by tweaks made elsewhere to the car’s proportions. Weight reduction measures have also kept the car’s curb weight in check. The biggest revisions take place within the 2007 Mini Cooper hatchback’s cabin. The central speedometer is bigger, and is now home to the car’s radio controls and display. Many of the car’s controls have been relocated, and the layout is now more user-friendly. The center stack has been narrowed; as a result, the foot wells are roomier and more comfortable for those with larger feet. Overall, the hatchback’s interior boasts a cleaner, more upscale look. Both Cooper hatchback trims get new engines. The Cooper S hatchback is now powered by a turbocharged engine that generates 172

Detailed test drive and walkaround of a 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged with Chris from Chicago Cars Direct. Sport might be something an Australian calls his buddy at the bar. As in: “G’day, sport, can I get you a beer?” But as used in the acronym SUV, the term doesn’t usually apply that well. Most SUVs are just not that sporty, are they? However, in the case of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, there’s an argument to be made for the accuracy of the addendum. First, just in case you’re as confused as we were, let’s explain that the Range Rover Sport is a shortened and sharpened Land Rover LR3, brought to market to compete with sportier SUVs such as Porsche’s Cayenne and BMW’s X5. In the course of reinventing this Sport model from the LR3 platform, the transformation resulted in a vehicle that’s about two inches shorter than the LR3 and offers much less interior room. Maximum cargo capacity for the Sport is 71 cubic feet compared with 90 for the LR3, and rear-seat space drops from 55 cubic feet to 49. Despite the smaller size, Land Rover managed to add weight. Our tester pounded the road at a porky 5866 pounds, whereas the last LR3 we tested weighed 5686 pounds. That could lead some to believe that this would be a slow and clumsy vehicle, but that’s not the case. With its generous mass balanced very nearly evenly on the two axles, the Range Rover Sport conducts itself with remarkable poise. It doesn’t hurt that the suspension is a combination of adaptive interlinked
