Mazda Miata – Greatest Ever Sports Cars Nº2
” Next on our list, the sports car that literally saved the sports car business. Some of the sexiest names on the streets, like Mercedes and BMW are a huge debt to the modest little Mazda Miata, the biggest selling 2-seat convertible of all time.” ” I think the Miata is the most influential sports car of its time. It actually brought back the idea of having a personal sports car when we were lost. We had nothing.” ” Say cars today like, BMW Z4, Mercedes’ okay, all owe their existence to the success of the Mazda Miata. ” ” There is an example of a sports car that’s not a high performance car out of the box, but it’s absolutely perfect. You are down to the ground, it’s still under 2500 pounds. The power-weight ratio is perfect. The balance is perfect. It’s an absolute joy to drive.” ” Because it was so light and evenly balanced front to back. The Miata handled superbly.” ” It wasn’t expensive. It handled brilliantly. It was cheap to run and it performed well, and lastly and most irritatingly, Japanese again. It was reliable.” ” When they test the prototypes, they went out over to Santa Barbra and they were literally being pursued by joggers waving checkbooks and things like this, you know, what is this car? We wanna buy it, you know, this is– this is great.” ” Not exactly the most macho of sports car. The Miata is known more for its social clubs than setting speed records. It takes a sluggish 7 plus seconds to get from knot to 60.” ” I normally use it for going to the …

Later it was offered as an open roadster. It was the fastest production car of its day. Built by Daimler-Benz AG and internally numbered W198, the fuel-injected road version was based (somewhat loosely) on the company’s highly successful competition-only sports car of 1952, the somewhat less powerful carbureted Mercedes-Benz 300SL (W194). The road model was suggested by Max Hoffman. Being intended for customers in the booming post-war American market it was introduced at the 1954 New York Auto Show, unlike previous models introduced at either the Frankfurt or Geneva shows. In Mercedes-Benz fashion, the “300″ referred to the engine’s three liter cylinder displacement. The “SL” stood for “Sport Leicht” (Sport Light). The 300SL was best known for both its distinctive gull wing doors and being the first-ever gasoline-powered car equipped with fuel injection directly into the combustion chamber. The gull wing version was available from March 1955 to 1957. Production of the roadster ended in 1963 with the introduction of the 230SL. Mercedes Gullwing 300 SL – Greatest Ever Sports Cars Nº6
” Inspired form and revolutionary function come together in the Mercedes Gullwing SL at number 6.” ” It’s such a work of art. It really is, you know, it’s stunning. It’s better than any Picasso.” ” The lines of the Gullwing are pretty much perfect. The frame of the car has its wonderful torch shape and yet has really voluptuous curves, but they’re not the voluptuous curves that, like the Chevy Corvette, which are a bit over the top and brazen and showy. These curves are kept in check and you know that the car has been designed to be super aerodynamic and yet it’s hugely glamorous at the same time.” ” Driving a car and then the doors got up a little gas struts was really Christ, but if you wanna make a steer in those days you arrive in a Gullwing, you’ve made it.” ” Certainly, the Gullwing is a milestone car, aesthetically, technologically. I mean it stunned the world when it came out. Everybody just went, “Holy Mack! Look at the technology that is put in that thing.”" ” Its tubular space frame made the Gullwing extra rigid, crucial for control at high speeds, and at only 82 kilograms, the frame was as light as a feather, but those same tubes took up a room where the bottom of the doors would go, so instead, they would hinge on the roof and lift up as opposed to out.” ” It was a practical piece of design, but warmed up becoming the car’s exotic signature.” ” I mean those doors were just unbelievable. They really look like a bird with the window—- with the doors open, and …

Nurburgrin Nordschleife circuit lap record 6:55 !!
In road legal trim and riding on Dunlop Direnza tyres Michael Vergers smashed one the worlds most prestigious production car records in a Radical SR8. The 13-mile Nordschleife circuit lap record now stands at 6 minutes 55 seconds, a full 20 seconds off the next placeholder. The SR8 is not cheap, but where else in the world can you get a sports car which is designed around the world’s only lightweight V8 engine which develops over 360bhp in standard form? The Powertec RPA enigne revs to 10500rpm, has exceptionally good power and torque curves, and sounds gorgeous! The SR8 is a available with either an ultra-lightweight Hewland JFR six-speed sequential gearbox, with plate-style LSD or the new uprated Quaife RQ2, with it’s ultra-lightweight shift and torque-biasing LSD The SR8 is comfy to sit in (a new, high-sided seat holds the driver in very securely) and all the controls come directly to hand. The pedal box and seat are fully adjustable, enabling drivers of all sizes to fit comfortably, which is just as well as the SR8 will pull 3g around a fast corner, helped by the sporty Dunlop 15” / 16” diameter slicks, designed specifically for the car …
